Giroud in jan?
I think this would be perfect for us.

I know he‘s very similar to Haller in style but I think giroud can play alongside anyone.

He’s more likely to get 1st team football here than inter Milan where they have Lukaku. I can see Man U coming in for him as well.

Zlatan would be a better choice. And even that would be a no-no.

Terrible idea...maybe 3 years ago but not now

We need to bin the old "good enough" mentality - and beware the curse of the Arsenal cast off - even though he is at Chelsea it remains

Apart from the fact it's an appalling idea, it's very strange than in mid-October you decide to start a thread like this? Odd indeed.

This had better be a bloody joke. We simply have to stop signing over the hill players in their early 30s. How many of them have ever worked out?

Re: Giroud in jan?
No thanks.

Good player - but now 33 years old. We don't need that kind of player clogging up our wage bill and only getting selected behind Haller.

We've had years of that sort of shit before now - acting as a last pay-day for fading stars. We can build something better from the position we're now in.

I’m Giroud

How do you do?

Re: Giroud in jan?
But we're signing a backup, 25M say would be what our 3rd or 4th highest fee of all time, not going to do that for someone to be a reserve

That's nothing for a proven prem striker these days. We paid 10 million for Hugill ffs.

Didn’t Ings have that terrible injury?
This is West Ham after all..
Sometimes I think chadwell Heath is probably concrete with some fake grass on top

And why would Southampton sell their leading goalscorer?

would probably cost 20-30M

Re: Giroud in jan?
I'd go in for Danny Ings. 5 in 10 across all competitions and would be a good foil for Haller. Still only 27 so should now be reaching his peak. I'm sure that he'd rather be playing for a team that has top 7 ambitions rather than being in a relegation scrap.

Could be a good idea, but only on one year rolling contracts. Don't want another Andy Carroll situation.

Bradley Dack anyone?

I know he's a midfielder but he scores a few goals from that position

Bring back Hugill, similar in style and home grown.

Re: Giroud in jan?
"But if we were looking for a Haller replacement in case of emergency not sure there are many players around who are closer in style of play than Giroud"

Thats my point.

If I wanted to build a team playing in a certain style I would need backup in every position that plays in that style.

We dont have that for Haller.

So whenever a replacement comes in we cant play the same game. That was my main problem with Hernandez. He had a few goals but when he wasnt scoring he offered NOTHING.

Whereas when Haller isnt scoring he is holding the ball up and bringing others in. For our team you need to look beyond the stats. For us, he can provide the same type of play and is also a goal scorer. He solves OUR problem at the moment pretty well.

As for being on the bench. This is the PL. I cant think of any striker that regularly starts every game in this league. Either tactical / rotation or for injury forwards generally dont start every game. Man city dont even play Aguero every time. Liverpool hardly play Origi. No striker can expect that in 2019. Unless they dont have an alternative (like us!).

I dunno, it makes sense to me. I get why others dont think so. Lets see what happens.

I don't know why he keeps arguing for Giroud, considering he said...

'Why would he sit on our bench?' and...

'The only club giroud will go to we’re he will be no.1 is a crap side. Why would he do that?'

Re: Giroud in jan?
Some of us on here would have kept Hernandez on for 140k a week who is no where near as good as Giroud

55 Apps - 16 goals

against 45 games - 5 goals

Next??

Re: Giroud in jan?
Agree that we probably shouldnt be offering big wages for an ageing player to come and be our backup.

But if we were looking for a Haller replacement in case of emergency not sure there are many players around who are closer in style of play than Giroud
